Job-oriented M.Tech. Programmes in VLSI and Embedded Systems – Your Visa for High-end Development

Education NewsHyderabad: Job-oriented M.Tech programmes in Very Large Scale Integration (VLSI) Design and Embedded Systems are being launched by JNTUK, JNTUA and SVU Tirupathi in collaboration with Seer Akademi, a US-based electronics engineering education pioneer which maintains collaborations with high-end electronics automation and chip designing companies.

The M.Tech.programmes have been introduced as part of SEER Akademi’s goal to develop world-class high-end programming that is required for chip development in India at a fast pace.

Curriculum To maintain the global standard, curriculum of the programmes has been designed in collaboration with the industry depending on what the industry expects from the engineers. With its high standards, Seer Akademi could become the source of VLSI and Embedded Systems courses to National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), which is being managed by IIT Madras.

Education Methodology Educational methodology of the programmes also differs from the regular ones. “Ours is a skill-based model, in which we make our students to spend 2/3 of their time on hands-on learning and practice in labs and 1/3 of the time is spent on teaching of concepts. Professionals with 10+ years of experience in respective subjects will explain the concepts.

Many of the instructors are global experts. To make the program location flexible, we record the expert instructors from the industry and play their recorded lessons and students have to implement those concepts in labs for most part of their day. It also provides opportunity to students to refer to the same concepts again and again till he or she internalizes it.This is in contrast to traditional classroom model where the professor just explains the concepts only once and the retention levels remain very low. Every credit/subject will have assignments and project works at 1:2 of theory to practices ratio,” explained Hirdesh Singhal, CEO of SeerAkademi.

Carrier OpportunitiesVLSI and Embedded Systems have two aspects viz. chip making – the hardware part- and development or the functionalities in the chip – the software part. Development for VLSI and Embedded Systems requires highly specialised programming skills. The present M.Tech. programmes offer this development expertise.

“For our 2012-14 M.Tech. batch at JNTUH, we have more number of offers than the students. Our students have done internships and project with who is who of VLSI industry during their course and later were hired by AMD, Synopsys, BlackBuck, DLRL, Gallop – Broadcom, AXELTA, among others. Our reputation in the industry as high quality education providers will help us to place the students of JNTUA, JNTUK and SVU batches too. ,” said Mr. Singhal.

While the highest package was Rs. 10 Lakh per annum, average package stood at Rs. 6 Lakh per annum. “Our students were offered the packages which are generally reserved for top tech schools like IITs, IIITs and NITs,” explained Singhal.
